Trees are the largest plants on Earth. A giant sequoia named General Sherman in California is the biggest tree by volume, and a coast redwood named Hyperion is the tallest at about 380 feet. You can estimate a tree's age by counting the rings inside its trunk, one for each year of growth. Trees make oxygen, give homes to birds and insects and provide shade, fruit and wood. This set features many kinds of trees. An apple tree stands tall, a maple shows autumn leaves, and there is an oak, a birch with its white bark, a palm tree and a tree with a simple canopy. A giant acorn sits under a tall tree, an autumn tree shows fall color, and a cute tree suits toddlers. Kids can color each tree by season: green in summer, red and orange in fall, pink blossoms in spring and bare branches in winter. Brown, gray and white bark adds realism. These pages fit nature walks and Arbor Day.

Simple trees for small hands

Three sheets keep the shapes big and friendly. Cute Tree has a bumpy cloud shaped canopy with curved branch lines inside and a thick trunk that splits into roots. Autumn Tree adds a smiling face on the trunk, leaf shapes inside the canopy and a few leaves floating down on both sides. Tree with Birds perches three plump birds among its branches, with small puffy clouds drawn inside the round leafy outline. Each works well with chunky crayons and bright colors.

A detailed oak

Oak Tree is the challenge page of the set. Its twisting branches hold dozens of lobed oak leaves in clusters, bark lines run up the thick trunk, and a tiny smiling acorn hangs from one branch. Older kids can color the leaves in a mix of green, gold and rust to show the season changing. Coloring the bark with two browns, darker in the grooves and lighter on the ridges, gives the trunk a rough, realistic texture.
