28 Peacock Coloring Pages

Only male peafowl, called peacocks, grow the famous train of long feathers covered in eye spots. Females, called peahens, are mostly brown and green, and together the birds are known as peafowl. The shimmering blues and greens are not pigment at all. They come from tiny structures in the feathers that bend light, which is why the colors seem to change as the bird moves. This set shows peacocks with lots of attitude. One dances with its train fanned wide, another struts, leaps or waves a wing, and one is drawn front on with its tail split into two sweeping halves. There are peacocks in the grass, on a rock, beside a tree and holding a ball, plus a portrait close-up, a laughing peacock, a baby and two cartoon versions. For the eye spots, start with a dark blue center, ring it with turquoise and finish with a bronze or gold outer band. Metallic gel pens make the feathers glow. Cartoon pages suit preschoolers, and the open-train designs reward older kids.
