13 Firefly Coloring Pages

Fireflies, also called lightning bugs, are beetles that make their own light through a chemical reaction called bioluminescence. Their light is nearly 100 percent efficient, giving off almost no heat. Each species flashes its own pattern to find a mate, and in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, one kind of firefly flashes in sync, lighting up the forest together each June. This collection shows fireflies as friendly characters. Fireflies glow in a night scene, one glows brightly alone, one sits on a flower and another holds a balloon. Others wear a backpack, read a book and wear a party hat with a wand. A cute firefly and a firefly character are easy for toddlers. Firefly glow looks best in yellow, yellow-green or light orange, with dark blue or purple night skies around it. Leaving a white circle around the glow and blending yellow outward makes it shine. The body is often black or brown with red or orange near the head.
