Nobody has found life beyond Earth yet, but scientists are looking. Rovers search for signs of ancient water on Mars, and telescopes study thousands of planets around other stars. Until we know, aliens belong to imagination, and this collection has plenty of it. Friendly aliens with tall antennae explore the moon and space. They perch on a moon rock, plant a flag on a pole, ride a balloon string among stars, climb a ladder toward a star and wave from a rocket doorway. Others visit unexpected places like a bell tower, a clock tower, a lighthouse and a lantern post beneath the moon, or tend a cactus on the moon. One delivers a gift by rocket, another peers out of a stacked spaceship window, and one rocket is wrapped in ivy. Aliens can be any color at all: lime green, purple, polka-dotted or striped. Dark blue or black space with white star dots makes the scenes pop, and silver or metallic pens work nicely for rockets.

Easiest visitors first

The standing and sitting characters have the thickest outlines and the biggest open shapes, the best starting point for ages 3 to 5. The sitting one has sparkly star eyes and round toe pads, while the standing one wears big boots. Alien with UFO and Friendly Alien add a saucer with a ring of lights or a space suit with cuffs and a badge, which gives kids around 4 to 7 a few more sections to fill.

Design a planet for each visitor

Since none of the pages include scenery, turn each sheet into a mini world building project. Ask kids to invent a planet name, choose a sky color and draw craters, moons or rings behind their favorite character. The saucer on Alien with UFO can be given its own license plate or logo, and the space suit on Friendly Alien can carry a mission patch the child designs on the chest badge.
