16 Castle Coloring Pages

Medieval castles were built mostly between the 11th and 15th centuries as fortified homes for nobles. Thick stone walls, towers and narrow windows helped defenders, while a gatehouse with a heavy gate controlled who came in. Many castles also had a keep, the strongest tower, where people could retreat during an attack. This collection builds castles in many shapes. There is a castle gate, a keep tower, a watchtower, a hilltop castle and a castle flying flags. Fairy tale designs include a classic fairy tale castle and slender spires, turret stacks and a pencil-thin tower. A four-tier toy castle stack is fun for younger builders, and a cute castle keeps shapes simple. Gray stone with darker brick lines looks realistic, but pastel fairy tale castles in pink, lavender and blue are just as fun. Flags and banners are a great place for a family crest. These pages pair well with fairy tales, knight stories and history lessons.
Faraway hilltops to a close up gatehouse
Fairy Tale Castle and Cute Castle are the easier pages for ages 4 to 7, one a small castle on a big open hill and one with a friendly knight in front. Castle with Flags and Castle Gate are medium sheets for kids around 5 to 8, packed with battlements, arched windows, stone blocks, chains and a portcullis grid that take more careful coloring.
Design a royal coat of arms
Knights and kings carried a coat of arms on their shields and banners. Have kids design their own on scrap paper with a shape, two colors and a symbol like a lion, star or heart, then copy it onto the banners on Castle with Flags and the shield in Cute Castle. They can also name their kingdom and tell a short story about who lives behind the Castle Gate drawbridge.
