Ladybugs, also called ladybirds or lady beetles, are beetles, and gardeners love them because a single ladybug can eat thousands of aphids in its lifetime. Their bright red color warns birds that they taste bad, and when threatened they release a bitter yellow fluid from their leg joints. There are about 5,000 kinds of ladybugs, and the number of spots does not tell their age. This set features ladybugs up close and outdoors. One page shows a ladybug face close up, another a front view and another a side profile. A ladybug rests on a leaf, sits on a rock and stands next to a tree. A baby ladybug and two cute ladybug pages suit toddlers. Classic ladybugs are red with black spots and a black head with white patches, but some are orange, yellow or even black with red spots. Kids can count the spots as they color them. Green leaves and grass finish each page.
